Bike of the Week – For Sale – 54cm Schlick Cycles SuperFast Road Bike with Shimano Alfine 8

We built this SuperFast in about 2010 long before the recent disc road bikes started appearing. Plus, we built this one with an eccentric bottom bracket to allow for chain tension adjustment to accommodate a Shimano Alfine 8-speed Internally Geared Hub (IGH)! The idea was to build the ultimate commuter bike and the SuperFast lives up to the billing.

The red powder-coated 54cm frame is a Tom Teesdale built from TrueTemper Verus HT steel. The geometry is taken from Tom’s tried-and-true Allroad designs and can fit up to 35mm tires for sure. Depending on the tire you could probably even go 38mm. If you wanted to run fenders you could do up to 32mm.

Currently the SuperFast is sporting Fyxation Session 700 x 28 tires, which I find to be excellent urban assault tires, on Alex 28 rims laced up with black double-butted spokes. The rear hub is the Alfine 8-speed SG-501 while the front hub is an Alfine Dyno to power a 6v light system.

The Winwood carbon fork is great! It takes the edge off urban streets but is stiff as heck laterally for great steering response.

Moving to the cockpit you will find 440mm FSA Omega Compact bars, a black 31.8mm Thomson stem, and Versa 8 brake/shifters that are made specifically for the Shimano Alfine 8 IGH and are really slick.

Stopping power coms from Avid’s BB7 Road Disc brakes with a 160mm rotor up front and a 140mm rotor in the rear.

I rolled this bike in my first year of the Riverwest 24 and rode it on and off for a couple of years before I built another road bike so this one has only gotten occasional use for the past few years. I don’t know the mileage but it is less that 1,000 for sure. Could even be closer to 500 but I don’t know. What ever the milage it is in excellent shape and is ready to ride and take you on whatever adventure you are game for.

We need to get some other projects going so this bike is available at $1800. Contact us at and we will hook you up!

Bike of the Week – For Sale – Schlick Cycles Simplified 24” BMX Cruiser in Orange – Demo Model

We did a few 24” Cruiser BMX Frames for team guys a few years back. This particular Orange “Simplified” was a backup bike and was only run for a couple of weekends at the indoor track in Walworth county, a couple of fun sessions at Ray’s Indoor Mountain Bike Park while it was still around in Milwaukee and a couple of local pub/fun rides. Probably less that 100 miles total and is in excellent shape.

This is a “Made in the USA” 4130 Cro-Mo frame that was hand-built by Tom Teesdale. Serial Number TET432

For the Geometry we started with basic specs from our best racer’s Redline Pro Cruiser and tweaked them to his liking.

Our Orange 24” Simplified Cruiser specs:

  • Effective Top Tube Length: 21.8″
  • Head Angle: 74 degree
  • Seat Angle: 70 degree
  • BB Height: 12″
  • Chainstay Length: 14.4″ – 15.6″

We built our BMX cruisers from an MTB background so a few details, like the 68mm English Bottom Bracket, Surly Track Dropouts and wishbone seat stay/brake bridge show our mountain bike heritage.

This Orange 24” Cruiser is built with:

  • Fork: Supercross SLT Cruiser
  • Handlebar: Sinz
  • Stem: Billet
  • Headset: Ritchey
  • Cranks: Profile Racing 175mm
  • Bottom Bracket: Profile Racing
  • Sprocket: Profile Racing 39T
  • Pedals: Fyxation Orange
  • Seatpost: Uno
  • Saddle: Odyssey Aiken
  • Brakes: Sinz Lever/Tektro Caliper
  • Wheels: Sun-Ringle
  • Freewheel: Shimano 17t
  • Tires: ITS MK2

This is a one of a kind bike and is available for $1200. Contact us at to make this one yours!

Bike of the Week – Greg’s SRAM Force 1×11 Growler – We Can Build You One Like This!

When I decided to build one of our Schlick Cycles Growlers for myself, I know pretty much what I wanted. A 1×11 SRAM Force 1 drivetrain, at least 40mm tires that would be at home on the dirt or the road, a high-quality wheelset and a Thomson cockpit. Mission accomplished and it rides even better than I expected!

The Growler line was made for us in Portland, OR by Zen Bicycle Fabrications shortly before they closed shop. Seems shorter run jobs like ours couldn’t sustain their business model but the fact remains that these Made-in-the-USA frames are excellent build quality and have some really well thought out features that make them perfect Allroad bikes. We still have a handful of these frames as well as the Velocity Aileron Pro Wheelsets that we spec for the builds and can custom build you a one-of-a-kind bike that will give you years of satisfaction. Contact us at and let us help you spec out your dream ride!

Here’s the basic spec:

  • $1399.00 – Frame and fork
  • $899.00 – Aileron Wheelset
  • $99.00 – Thomson Seatpost
  • $99.00 – Thomson Stem
  • $249.00 – Thomson Carbon Cyclocross
  • $150.00 – WTB Valcon Saddle
  • $280.00 – TRP HY-RD Brakes
  • $150.00 – Clement X’plor Tires 40mm x 700c
  • $36.00 – Truvativ/SRAM Team GXP English Bottom Bracket Gray
  • $110.00 – SRAM PG1170 11-Speed 11-36 Cassette
  • $46.00 – SRAM PC-1170 11-Speed Chain
  • $231.00 – SRAM Force 1 11 Speed X-Horizon Rear Derailleur Medium Cage
  • $190.00 – SRAM Force 22/ Force 1 Double-Tap Right Shift/ Brake Lever
  • $274.00 – SRAM Force 1 GXP 172.5mm 110 BCD 42T Crankset
  • $87.00 – SRAM Force 1 Left Side Drop Bar Brake Lever for Cable Brakes

$4299 at Retail.

However, due to some great OE pricing we get from our supplier/partners we are able to offer a similarly specced Growler in your frame size for $3599.00.

John chose a bit or a different route with his more Road-focused Growler that you can check out here.

We also have the Growler frames available as a combo with a really nice carbon road disc fork here.

Bike of the Week – Gulf Racing-Inspired Custom Schlick Cycles 2-speed Road Bike – For Sale

Schlick Cycles custom gulf Porsche bicycle

Greg and I have a car “thing” along with our bike “thing.” Especially for vintage race cars – mostly late 60’s and early 70’s. The Gulf Porsche 917 is maybe one of the most iconic and we love it. We love it so much we decided to have one of our Simplified bikes painted in this distinctive color scheme. You may be wondering “what is your Simplified bike line?” Well, at one time early on at Schlick Cycles we were dabbling with a line of singlespeed bikes. We learned pretty quickly that gears are good. We live in a fairly hilly area around Milwaukee and because of our technical savvy with various gearing drive trains (okay maybe our age and fitness level had something to do with it), we have only built bikes with multiple gears from that point on.

So, this particular bike started out as a single speed with cow horn bars and only one gear.

Bike of the Week – John’s Road-based Schlick Cycles Growler – We Can Build You One Like This!

Schlick cycles growler road bike

This Growler is John Schlick’s personal ride that started with custom paint over the standard black powder coat and was built up with a 2×10 Shimano Ultra drivetrain, Velocity Aileron wheels with Sapim CX-Ray Spokes, TRP’s HY-RD Cable Actuated Hydraulic Disc Brakes, a Thomson cockpit and it all rides on Clement’s 35x700c X’plor USH tubeless tires.

Available Now! Growler Framesets $1299

We’ve been building All Road bikes in the Good Ol’ US of A for a very long time. Before Schlick even existed, in fact! Some companies are now calling these Gravel bikes. I get it, we rode thousands of miles of Kansas, Nebraska and Iowa gravel on bikes going back to the ’70’s that are very similar in geometry to the current gravel bikes. Guess what, they work great on the road too. Weird, Huh?

Our Growler is the latest iteration of the most versatile of road bikes with:

Amazing Healing Power of Beer

We’ve been getting these “Amazing Healing Power of Beer” stickers for years at the Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee from event organizer, Pee Oui Roubaix, or as he’s been know by others, Mr. Phil Van Valkenburg.

The Fat Tire Tour of Milwaukee, coming up on its 35th year in 2018, is the oldest continuously running group ride in the greater Milwaukee area and has a long history of underground/pirate DNA. The original rides back in the late ’80’s were most definitely underground with probably a dozen riders lilly-padding

Greg’s Smitty with Rohloff Internally Geared Hub and Gates Carbon Drive

I’ve got the original fork back on my Smitty after spending several months playing around with the Lauf suspension fork. I really liked that fork but it has quite a bit longer axle-to-crown length that the Smitty was designed for so I was keen to get the handling back to where I like it.

For what its worth, I really like the Lauf for an urban assault bike and I had a ton of fun with it on the Smitty. Someday I may build a Smitty frame specifically corrected for the Lauf so I can maintain the handling I like from the stock fork.

Trail Genius Uses Our Schlick Northpaw To Cover the Fat Bike Birkie

Chris Marr prepares his Schlick Northpaw to take on the Fat Bike Birkie.

Chris’s Northpaw was decked out with GPS sensors and cameras to record the action during the 47K race at the Fat Bike Birkie. If you look closely at the handlebar you will even see a gyro controlled GoPro that keeps the image being captured much more smooth.

Demo Frame 29-Plus Frame for Sale! $750

Here is a rare opportunity to own a unique 29-plus bike frame. This is prototype #2 of our Tashunka 29+ bicycle that Jim has been testing for about the last 6 months. The Tashunka is not a repurposed fatbike but is specifically designed for the unique qualities of the 29+ wheel size.

We went with a 170mm rear end and a 100mm bottom bracket on our 29-plus to give you more drivetrain options that are possible with a 135/73 setup. No problem running a complete 2×10 setup here!

The only thing that separates this bike from our production Tashunka is that we built this one around a 27.0 seat post while the production version uses a 27.2. Other than that this is the production geometry and is right on!

Size Medium, this frame is optimal for riders from about 5’7″ to 5’10” but might work for you on either side of that a bit depending on how you like your bikes sized.

This package deal includes:

• Schlick Tashunka 29+ frame in Matte Black Powder Coat. (Very slight cable wear on the head tube but it is in great shape.)
• Thomson 27.0 Seatpost
• Thomson Seat Clamp
• Problem Solvers Front Derailleur Mount
• Stealth/Reflective Graphics

We are open to suggestions for your dream fatbike wheelset! Let us know if we can build a set of wheels for you!

Custom Schlick Shark

We sure love building Sharks. This black beauty headed down to Arizona recently but before we sent it on the way local photo-wiz Rafal from Seville Media Photography shot some pix for us, enjoy the Gallery!

Each Schlick Shark is truly a custom work of art that is individually crafted for the rider. We currently have enough material to build 3 more Sharks, so if you want to own a very special bicycle that only a few other people in the world own, let us know! We’d be happy to work with you to build a one-of-a-kind Schlick Shark.

29-plus Wheel Builds

We’ve been doing quite a few 29-plus builds lately. I’m going to get photos when I can and post them to a gallery on this page. Builds have been divided between 135/100 sets for the Krampus and other 29-plus bikes that use the MTB standard and the fat-bike standard 170/135 builds we do both for our 29-plus bike as well as folks converting their fat-bikes to 29-plus. I probably don’t need to tell you which are stronger but both build up well!

So far most of the wheelsets have used Hope hubs, black double butted spokes and black brass nipples but we are open to suggestions that will fill your needs.. Let us know if we can build a set of wheels for you!
